On October 11 2007, the soil and water conservation project on Danjiangkou reservoir area and its upper reaches  started in Ankang, Shaanxi. 3.497 billion yuan will be invested next five years, and the soil and water conservation will be implemented in 690 small river valleys of 3 provinces and 25 counties (cities, districts) including Shaanxi, Henan and Hubei with the total planning areas of 1430200 hactares.
